Almost Smoked Out!

This morning I was a little anxious about my interview with Benjamin Blackwelder. We chatted and he asked me questions. Then he showed me projects that I'd be working on...by then I got the picture that I would be working for him! So Monday morning it'll all start. I was kind of shocked at how smoothly it went and when I called my Mom on the way home I still had that jittery excitement and nervousness as it set in that I was a designer and I was going to work on actual real projects! Starting Monday! If you can picture how frazzled I was you can kind of understand what happened next! When I got home I was feeling kind of hungry and so I pulled out some yummy looking spinach raviolis from the freezer and put them in a pan with some water. I turned it on and watched it for a little while and then I remembered I needed to e-mail my teacher about having another internship and I needed to call someone and so without thinking I ran up stairs to my room. I know what your thinking...just hold on a second and I'll tell you what happened.
[This picture is what I managed to save after I cut off all the burnt parts!! I ended up throwing it away!!!]
I was sitting at my desk typing a nice long e-mail when a shocking and startling noise burst out behind me. It sounded like one of those really old scary horns. It took a minute to register what was going on and then I ran down the stairs to my pasta, at least what was left of it! I don't know how long I was upstairs but the top foot of the main floor had smoke across it and then I saw the pan with the pasta!! It wasn't on fire luckily. It was just a black smoking mess of pasta, cheese and spinach! I opened the door on both sides of the house and mind you, the fire alarm was still blaring! I looked through the unfamiliar cabinets to find a sheet pan to get the smoke away from the alarm but when I didn't find one I grabbed a cutting board and it worked just as well. None of my roommates were home and hopefully no one peaked into my house and saw the spectacle. When the alarm finally stopped I was able to survey the damage and sadly enough my lunch didn't survive. I was instead left with hard burnt pasta. I guess the nickname I got from my trainer in Thailand would have suited me today! It was a Dori day! Silly me. Next time I'll just try to be distracted by the food so another almost disaster wont happen again! I came back home this afternoon and discovered that our little duplex still hasn't rid itself of the smell! Sorry roommates!!  So word of the wise! Don't forget! Don't be Dori!!
